The e-commerce product page checklist we run before every launch
Twenty-two checks, ordered by revenue impact.
Imagery does the selling
Six to eight images minimum: front, back, detail, scale reference, in-use, and packaging. Zoom on desktop, pinch on mobile, consistent aspect ratios so the grid does not jump. Compress properly and set dimensions — product pages are where layout shift costs the most.
Copy that answers the actual question
Lead with the benefit, then specify materials, dimensions, weight, care and compatibility. Most abandoned carts on product pages come from an unanswered question, not a price objection. Read your support tickets and put the answers on the page.
Trust signals near the decision
Reviews with photographs, stock status, delivery estimate as a date rather than a duration, return policy in one sentence, and payment methods visible before checkout. Place them beside the add-to-cart button, not in a tab below the fold.
Technical essentials
Product schema with price, availability and rating. Unique title and meta per variant where variants have their own URL, canonical to the parent where they do not. Breadcrumbs matching your category structure. Never let out-of-stock pages 404 — keep them live with alternatives.
Mobile behaviour
Sticky add-to-cart, thumb-reachable variant selectors, no interstitials, and a form-free path to checkout for guests. Then verify the whole thing against a speed budget — our Core Web Vitals guide applies doubly to product pages, and landing page anatomy covers the category and campaign pages feeding them.
